A great night for Swindon sport

A HOST of local athletes, teams and coaches picked up prizes at the Wiltshire and Swindon Sports Awards on Tuesday night.
The event, held at County Hall in Trowbridge, was hosted by former England rugby captain Phil de Glanville and featured performances from Swindon’s national rhythmic gymnastics champion Laura Halford.
Swindon St George coach Martin Lane claimed Sports Personality of the Year for athletes with a disability.
A Long Service to Sport gong went to Swindon Sonics secretary John Stow.
Boxing stalwart Brian Roberts claimed Participation Coach of the Year and Team England rhythmic gymnastics chief Deb Hows picked up Performance Coach of the Year.
Tony Ellis, founder of Swindon St George Wheelchair Tag Rugby Club, was named Inclusion Coach of the Year and Swindon Shock Basketball Club won Most Inclusive Club of the Year.
Swindon Dolphin claimed Sports Club/Team of the Year and Volunteer Team of the Year and Tigersharks’ Diane Lee scooped Unsung Hero of the Year.
