SWINDON Spitfires reserves returned to second place in the Wiltshire County League with an impressive 7-3 victory on the road at Highworth Town.
The visitors started brightly and Victoria Parry came close to opening the scoring early on. before nudging in front In the eight minute.
Morgan Whitaker found Caroline Hook, who slotted past the home keeper. Highworth rallied,pushed Spitfires back and equalised in the 12th minute before going ahead 10 minutes later.
Spits quickly retaliated and, in the 26th minute, a quick throw-in by Emma Pinkey allowed Katie Wadey to run at the Highworth defence and score Spitfires’ second. A minute later Spitfires took the lead again as Megan Greening’s cross found Hook to score her second.
In the second half, the away side continued to push on and Greening’s run on the right wing ended with an emphatic effort flying over the Worthians’ goalkeeper’s head.
The hosts did score a third in the 52nd minute but that only prompted Spitfires to go into overdrive.
Whitaker hit the crossbar after 66 minutes and five minutes later Pinkey scored from close range. Whitaker did find the back of the net soon after, only for her goal to be ruled offside, before Pinkey registered her second in the 89th minute and deep into injury time Hook scored her hat-trick goal and Spitfires’ seventh.
Next week Spits entertain Frome Town Reserves.
