SWINDON Spitfires Under 15s upset last season’s Oxford Mail Girls Football League runners-up Kidlington 4-0 to maintain their 100 per cent start to the campaign.
Spits took a 1-0 lead as a result of a sweeping move involving Amy Connaghan and Dani Granato, which allowed Meghan Larkin to cross to Poppy Cottrill who brought the ball under control before firing home.
Kidlington came close to equalising and a sweeping move saw a drilled shot tipped over the bar by Spitfires’ keeper Chloe Mason.
With a single-goal lead at the break, Spitfires started the second half with a more committed approach and the midfield quartet of Chiarna Deller, Larkin, Katie Dellow and Connaghan began to pull the strings in the centre of the park.
Kidlington almost levelled when an effort hit the woodwork, but shortly afterwards Spitfires made the most of their luck to extend their advantage as a Larkin cross was steered home by Granato at the back post.
Kidlington rallied in search of a way back into the game, but Spits countered with a break down the left wing and Larkin’s cross deceived the visiting keeper to make it 3-0.
In the last few minutes Spits added a fourth as a result of cracking shot from Dellow with an assist from Cottrill.
