Devizes Town Council have given its approval for the design of lamposts to be installed on The Green.
Wiltshire Council is putting lighting in when it upgrades the footpath across The Green to became a cycleway and footpath.
Town councillors had expressed concern about the design of the lamposts, Wiltshire Council came back with seven designs and these were discussed by the town council’s planning committee last week. The committee agreed on the Abbey design – a heritage style lantern with LED technology.
The cost of the project is £250,000 of which £200,000 is contributions from housing developers and £50,000 was awarded by Wiltshire Council from funding it received from the Government for highway schemes. The majority of the money will be used to resurface the footpath and widening it with the remainder for the lighting.
