First Great Western granted rail contract extension
FIRST Great Western will continue run the Great Western rail network until September 2015, it has been announced this morning.
The Department for Transport has announced a new deal granting FGW a 23-month extension to their current deal.
FirstGroup has run the network, which serves Swindon, since April 2006 and had expected an extension to run until July 2016 following negotiations with the DfT earlier this year.
The extension has been arranged with promises to provide better quality Wi-Fi on services, more standard class seats with fewer first class seats, additional sleeper carriages from London to Cornwall and several million pounds of investment for stations most in need.
