Appeal date for second cinema plan at Bowyers

An appeal into the refusal of permission for a cinema development on the former Bowyers site in Trowbridge will be heard on January 7, 2014.
Developer Prorsus’ £46m project would include a Cineworld, Morrisons, six restaurants and a pub. The hearing is expected to last four days.
Prorsus’ reserve application, which replaced the cinema with another unspec- ified leisure use, was accepted by Wiltshire Council in February.
The company has now decided to pursue the initial application, which was rejected by the council last year, by appealing to the Planning Inspectorate.
Angus Horner, Prorsus’ MD, said: “The sole issue between ourselves and the council is the provision of the cinema and we hope that the inspector shares the views of the vast majority of Trowbridge’s residents and supports our scheme.”
Site work, suitable for either scheme, will begin soon.
