A 47-year-old Devizes man is today undergoing reconstructive surgery in hospital after sustaining severe facial injuries in an incident outside the Corn Exchange in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The victim, who does not want to be named, suffered a fractured cheek and eye socket among other injuries.
He is said by friends to have upbraided two men inside the Corn Exchange for bullying another man.
A fracas ensued which was broken up by security staff who put both parties out of the building by different doors. But the incident continued in the street, leading to the injuries.
Friends of the victim say he is too terrified to go outside his home. Police are examining CCTV footage of the incident.
