MP backs Scouts for youth services

NORTH Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson met with hundreds of scouts from across the UK while he was at the annual Conservative Party conference.
Justin met them at a fringe Scouts Speak Up event, where scouts have an opportunity to voice issues affecting them locally and nationally to MPs and discuss how they can help change.
Justin said: “Scouts provide a fantastic service to their local communities. If it was down to me I would hand over the entire counties youth services to scouts and organisations like it as they have their finger on the pulse of what activities actually connect with young people today.”
These events have proved a success in recent years in empowering young people, and this year scouts had the opportunity to choose subjects of discussion and prepared questions to ask the MPs prior to the event.
Chief Scout Bear Grylls said: “Events like this are really important for scouts who are looking to make change happen.
“For all those campaigning for young people to get their voice heard and be a positive force in society I say well done, keep at it and don’t give up. Together, we’re stronger.
“I want members to feel empowered to fulfil their dreams.”
