SWINDON SUNDAY LEAGUE: Gas maintain hot streak

THE game of the day in Division One of the Swindon Sunday League was at Penhill Rec where AFC Gas maintained their unbeaten record this term with a 2-0 victory over Trak.
The first half was uneventful in terms of goalscoring opportunities but Gas picked up the pace in the second and Ash Taylor twice crossed for James Blake to convert.
Gas manager Alan Blake was pleased with the win and thought his team deserved the three points in what he described as “a great game of football between two very good teams”.
Elsewhere in the division, New Century won 6-2 against Wheatsheaf with Warren Fuller getting four and Stuart Fraser and Callum Parsons also finding the net. The visitors responded with goals from Glenn Armstrong and Lewis Chatwin.
In Division Two, Deers Leap played the first 10 minutes of their game against SKS Blyskawica with just nine men and went 1-0 behind courtesy of a free kick from Taylor Gill.
Goals from Scott Scanlon and Nathan Gambling turned the game in Leap’s favour before Miec Wojewodka equalised for Blyskawica with the last kick of the match.
Division Three leaders FC Walcot totally dominated their meeting with Robnor Resins and came out 7-2 winners.
The pick of the goals came from Dean Hughes, who cut in from the right and buried an unstoppable drive into the top corner. Hughes also added a second while Levi Cox registered twice and Steven Clements, Talif Hamza and Lee Hayward completed the scoring.
Elsewhere, Rodbourne Real came from behind three times to rescue a point in a 5-5 draw with Tawny Owl FC.
A hat-trick from Michael Francis played a major part in Rodbourne’s recovery, while Nathan Cooper and Richard Walsh grabbed a goal apiece. Tawny’s goalscorers were Tom Clapham (3), Andy Wells and Chris Doyle.
Division Four pacesetters Nationwide Pavilion made it four wins out of four with a hard fought 6-2 victory over third-placed Swindon Asians. A hat-trick from the prolific Aaron Williams took his tally to 13 for the season and Paul Ridgewell, Andi Drinkwater and Simon Jenkins also netted. Brothers Ash and Maher Ali replied for the visitors.
DSB stay top of Division Six after a 7-0 mauling of Rosier Rovers. Ryan and Brinn Keech scored two apiece with Dave Gibbons, Lee Probert and Michael Bird completing the rout. RJ Aerials kept up the pressure on the leaders with a 3-2 win over DH Fitness, as Lee Childs, Kev Neal & Neil Mitcham scored.
Save on Tyres Athletic were 4-3 victors over AFC Royal with Joe Smedley, Nick Latham, Joe Cosway and Craig Millward finding the net. Dominic Shoesmith, Tom Golding & Daniel Skinner scored for Swindon Athletic in an entertaining 3-3 draw with CM Automotive FC, whose replies came from Mark Harrington and a brace from Steve Nicholls.
A number of Swindon Sunday League sides progressed through the first round of the Wiltshire Sunday Cup at the weekend.
