THE Vicar of Christ Church has been installed as an Honorary Canon of Bristol Cathedral.
Coincidentally, Reverend Simon Stevenette, 51, was installed by Bishop Mike and the Dean of Bristol Cathedral David Hoyle on the 15th anniversary of his licensing as the Vicar of Christ Church with St Mary’s in the Old Town Partnership of Churches.
Simon said: “This honorary title entitles me to have a stall called Wroughton in the cathedral and to wear a special red scarf. There are 22 honorary ordained canons and six lay canons.
“It was a remarkable day with over 100 family and friends, with about 50 coming over from Swindon on a coach and about 50 coming over from Keynsham, my previous parish.”
Simon was joined by his wife Nicola, and sons Thomas, 22, Robert, 20, WIlliam, 15, and Hugo, nine. Eighteen-year-old Edward was unable to make the occassion as he has enrolled at Warwick University.
