SWINDON Town Ladies Under 16s were well beaten by Winchester City Flyers as they tumbled out the League Cup following a 5-1 defeat.
Town came out strong as they looked to put recent defeats behind them and put together a string of passing moves, but the Flyers were the first to strike when Town were caught high up the pitch and were beaten by a long ball over the top before the ball beat the Town keeper and found the net.
It wasn’t long before the home side found the net again with a similar move, but when it looked as though they would be going in 2-0 down at the break Town struck as a good move released Amy Jolliffe to drive the ball home to make it 2-1.
After clawing their way back into the contest Swindon regained an element of control and stemmed the tide, but the game soon broke down into a scrappy affair before the interval.
Town switched formations for the second half and held their own to keep things at 2-1, but Winchester were soon able to capitalise to stretch their lead again following an injury and the confusion which came with a second reshuffle.
Town keeper Rhiannon Brown was in great form again and made save after save to keep Town’s hopes alive, until the constant pressure proved too much for Swindon and the Flyers forwards managed to find the net twice more to end the contest.
