Artists finish off Ashton Keynes mural in time for a ball
A MURAL has been completed at a nursery in Ashton Keynes just in time for the village’s charity ball.
Today, local artist Ruth Britton applied the finishing touches to the 20x7ft wall which she designed in a fantasy fairy tale theme along with fellow artist Chris Burton.
The mural features well-known fairytale characters which the children will be able to enjoy while playing in the new outdoor area.
Ruth said: “It looks great. I’m very pleased with it. It physically took two weeks to paint it in the afternoon. And it took a month to design it; that took time as well.
“The most difficult thing was getting the paints because of course it needed to be weather-proof, and it also had to be in lots of different colours.
“The idea was to make it look like an enchanted forest.”
The mural has been completed just in time for the Charity Fairytale Ball, being held tomorrow night in the village hall where the pre-school is based.
Tickets have already sold out for the ball, to raise money for children’s charities HomeStart and Glad’s House.
Ruth said: “A couple of months ago someone mentioned that the charity ball was going to have a fantasy fairy theme, and would I do anything for it. I mentioned it to Chris and there it was.”
For the past 12 months Ashton Keynes Pre-school has wanted to install a mural to brighten up the outdoor play area after an overhaul of the outdoor space.
The garden has now seen an all-weather flooring laid, a new decking area built and sensory corner established.
The pre-school runs five mornings a week and relies on donations.
