A 48-year-old has been released on bail after admitting stabbing a young man in the chest in Liden.
Stephen Low pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding before a jury could be sworn in on the first day of a trial at Swindon Crown Court.
He had been facing the more serious charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, which he denied.
But prosecutors dropped that allegation when he entered the plea to the lesser charge.
Low, of Galsworthy Close, Liden, stabbed 20-year-old Aron Low in the abdomen on the early evening of Wednesday, January 30.
Recorder Stephen Lennard adjourned the case until Friday, November 15, to give the probation service time to compile a pre-sentence report.
He released Low on bail on condition he resides at his home address, stays out of licensed premises and not have any alcohol in the house.
