SOUTHERN LEAGUE: Allen announces shock retirement
SWINDON Supermarine left-back Danny Allen has announced his retirement from football with immediate effect.
The shock revelation came earlier this evening, just two days after the former Didcot man featured in the 3-0 Red Insure Cup win over North Leigh.
It is thought that work commitments contributed to the 30-year-old's decision.
No one has made more appearances for Marine than Allen, who has turned out more than 300 times for the Southern League club.
Writing on his Twitter feed, he said: "After careful deliberation I am announcing my retirement from football. I'd like to thank my family and friends for their support!
"All the best to the club and thank you to all the fans!"
Marine manager Dave Webb confirmed to the Adver that Allen had left the Webb's Wood Stadium.
