Chippenham girls day of quiet for charity

Schoolgirl Maia Tagholm has been likened to Little Miss Chatterbox but on Monday she was quiet as a mouse.
Maia and her best friend Georgia Millar, who both live in Chippenham, fulfilled every teacher’s dream by managing to keep quiet for the entire six-and-a-half-hour school day.
The Sheldon pupils, both 11, were raising money for Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment.
Maia, of Parkfields, said: “We had to be silent all day including lunchtime and breaks, so from 8.30am to 3pm. I thought it would be easy but by lunch I really wanted to talk. There was one time I was so close.”
The girls used a mixture of writing, miming and mouthing to get through the day and raised £55 in sponsorship from fellow pupils.
Maia’s dad Philip Tagholm said: “Maia and Georgia found the challenge very difficult as they are usually extremely chatty.”
