Excitement as Devizes micropub set to open

AN independent pub offering real ales and no music will be opening in Devizes tomorrow.
The Vaults, known as a micro pub, will be opening in the former Lignum antiques shop in St John’s Street.
The pub’s business partners Malcolm Shipp and Chaz Hobden, brewer at Wessex Brewery at Longbridge Deverill, say they have received a good following since announcing the venture in the summer.
The Vaults will have two rooms for drinkers while the cellar will be turned into a bottled beer shop.
Mr Shipp, who lives in Sells Green, said: “We have had people trying to peek through the newspaper on the window of The Vaults to see what it is like inside.
“Everybody is really looking forward to it and we are excited about it. It will be fantastic and offer great hospitality.”
The Vaults will open at 6pm tomorrow and its licence allows alcohol to be sold until 9pm.
The manager is Lesley Symons, who ran the former Porter Blacks pub (now Wetherspoons) in Chippenham, and there is one part-time member of staff.
There will be five real ales, one cider, some wines, soft drinks and free canapes on offer, plus 80 different bottled beers.
The furniture is being built from scrap and recycled timber by artist Jonathan Rigg of Seend Cleeve.
