FORMER Territorial Army member Sandra Penfold has received an award for her 22 years in the service.
Colour Serjeant Penfold, of Le Marchant Close, Devizes, was presented with a certificate of meritorious service by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire Sarah Troughton at a ceremony at Devizes Town Hall.
Colour Serjeant Penfold, 56, retired from the TA earlier this year as motor transport senior non-commissioned officer with 7th Battalion The Rifles.
Her service took her as far afield as Kazakhstan, Denmark and Cyprus.
It was a role that dovetailed neatly with her current Ministry of Defence job as transport manager at Army headquarters in Andover.
She admits that, after such a long period of service, retirement has been something of a wrench. She said: “It’s the people I miss more than anything. There is camaraderie in the Army that is very special.”
However, she is putting her skills to good use as soon after she retired from the TA she joined Wiltshire Search and Rescue as a volunteer.
