FREE-SCORING Intel ran out 6-5 winners against Malmesbury reserves in an 11-goal thriller at Commonweal School, writes LEE CLARK.

Malmesbury took the lead around 10 minutes in with a stunning strike from 30 yards out.

Simon Foster levelled for the hosts and goals from Matt Gumm and Craig Roberts seemingly put Intel out of reach.

In the second half, Vics threw caution to the wind and within a matter of minutes they had halved the deficit and equalised soon after.

Just as the game seemed to be swinging in Malmesbury’s favour, Lewis Wollon put the home side back in front.

Stubborn Malmesbury did not let their heads drop however, and levelled at 4-4.

Craig Roberts and Lewis Wollon scored their second goals of the afternoon and despite Malmesbury scoring a fifth, Intel held on.

After the game, Intel manager Mark Allen praised his strikers.

“They are the difference between this season and last season,” he said. “Last season we were in the mix, but lacked the fire power to really capitalise.

“This season we have four fantastic attackers that are really making the difference for us.”

Wootton Bassett Town Dev’s hope of winning Division One continued to dwindle as they lost 2-1 at home to Melksham reserves.

Melksham took the lead against the run of play in the first half as Wootton Bassett’s goalkeeper Craig Faulkner was wrong-footed by a deflected strike.

The visitors doubled their lead after a poor defending by the Bassett back line.

As the game drew to a close, Lewis Petrie continued his fine goalscoring form to give the hosts hope, but despite late pressure they were unable to deny Melksham a ninth consecutive victory in all competitions.

In the Premier Division, Southbrook moved into second with a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Wilts Calne Town.

After a tight first 20 minutes, the prolific Devan Bryan gave the hosts the breakthrough via a fortunate deflection.

Bryan doubled his and Southbrook’s tally in the second half, before Stevie Shaw removed any doubt of the win for Southbrook by adding another.

Supermarine Sports Club remain firmly in the driving seat at the top of the league after they demolished Blyskawica 5-1 at home.

Their ninth successive victory leaves them with a four-point lead over Southbrook. Marlborough beat title-challengers Shrewton 3-1 in a surprise victory at Elcot Lane, pulling Doug Imrie’s side up into midtable.
