Schoolgirl Katie Whiting's humorous Christmas card design will be on sale in Specsavers to raise money for the Wiltshire Blind Association.

The 10-year-old from Kington St Michael Primary School impressed judges with a design featuring Santa’s sleigh being pulled not by three reindeer but by farm animals, with the catchphrase ‘Should have gone to Specsavers’.

As overall competition winner she has won an iPad and had her idea turned into a Christmas card, which is on sale in eight Specsavers branches in Wiltshire, including Chippenham’s.

Mike Thompson, store director at Specsavers in the Borough Parade store, said: “We were really impressed with the standard of entries and it was a tough job choosing the winners.

“Katie’s design was really creative though and captured the optical theme perfectly. A huge thank you to all the schools that took part and please do buy a pack of cards if you can.”

The Wiltshire Blind Association is helping more than 1,500 registered blind and partially sighted people in the county to live as independentally as possible.

As an independent charity it receives no core funding from statutory sources and relies on the generosity of local people and businesses.

A pack of five Christmas cards costs £2.50.
