Two members of 1st Malmesbury Scout Group were presented with their Chief Scout’s silver award, the highest award a Cub Scout can earn.

Ten-year-olds Alex and Jacob Nuttall were delighted to receive the award after working towards it for the last two-and-a-half years.

They are due to move up to the Scouts and were presented with their badges at their last Cub Scout meeting after completing outdoor, creative and fitness activities.

It has been several years since any of the Malmesbury Cub Scouts gained the award, which means doing extra work outside Cub meetings.

Jonathan Barstow, group Scout leader, said several other older Cubs had been encouraged to complete the award after seeing Alex and Jacob’s achievements.

He said: “They have worked very hard to gain the badge and we are very proud to have two silver awards.

“Over the next year a lot of Cubs from the two Malmesbury cub packs will be old enough for Scouts. However, we only have one Scout troop which is full, so we really need some new leaders to come forward.”
