Angus Macpherson, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire, found out more about a countywide scheme he has funded when he visited Devizes Boxing Club.
The Wiltshire Police Outbox scheme received £22,200 from the Commissioner’s innovation fund and ten amateur boxing clubs have committed to join the scheme.
It is a multi-agency scheme designed to refer young people to boxing clubs and to support, guide and mentor them. The aim is to give them a positive focus, reducing their risk of becoming involved with anti-social or criminal behaviour.
Mr Macpherson met Detective Inspector Mike Rees, who is running the scheme, and representatives from the Devizes and Malmesbury boxing clubs at Devizes Boxing Club on Monday night.
Mr Macpherson said: “I was pleased to be able to meet some of those involved with Outbox. It is a great, innovative scheme involving the police and the community to provide a positive focus for youngsters.”
