Westbury-based security services training provider The Formative Group is currently on the lookout for 16-18 year olds for its next Security Services Apprenticeship, which starts in January next year.

The group gives teenagers the opportunity to gain valuable skills and life experience through its apprenticeship, with the chance to continue their training in a range of NVQ courses.

Based at Link House in Link Road on the West Wilts Trading Estate, The Formative Group started in November 2012 and its first intake of 20 recruits recently completed the 12 month apprenticeship.

During the apprenticeship, recruits have provided security services at football matches for Yeovil Town, AFC Bournemouth and Exeter City, as well as at events such as Whitehaven Festival.

Operations director Andy Redhead, who previously served 20 years with the Metropolitan and Northumbria Police, said: “What we have here are a bunch of youngsters taken from unemployment to work in crowd safety at a variety of events, where they learn important skills.

“This has got me more excited than anything I have done before and we are training these apprentices to the same high standard that we work to, so those who use us know they will get a quality service.

“Through the course, we increase their self-belief and self-esteem and many of them become mature beyond their years. It’s not about age, it’s about having the right attitude.

“We now have a team of youngsters that have a wealth of experience from working at football games and other events and by the end they are able to go on to proper employment.”

The company was recently visited by MP Andrew Murrison, who discovered the wide range of work and services it provides to teenagers, as well as the courses it offers for individuals of all ages.

Dr Murrison said: “It’s good to hear from people who have clearly benefited from what The Formative Group have done in such a short space of time. It’s very impressive to see how fast the organisation has grown.”
