Wheelchair users are invited to try out the sport of boccia – similar to lawn bowling – at the Nursteed Centre in Devizes. Wiltshire Council has organised free taster sessions.
Geoff Mascall, who has done a boccia coaching course and is involved in the sessions, said: “Boccia is a wonderful game. It is a precision game and involves bowling a ball across the floor to get as close to the jack.
“It is designed for people in wheelchairs and who are largely inactive. Boccia is a Paralympic sport and Boccia UK want the sport to expand.
“The aim is to start a boccia club in Devizes and meet at the Nursteed Centre every fortnight.”
The sessions are on Tuesday, from 6pm to 10pm, and Saturday, December 14, from 9am to 1pm. For more, call Mr Mascall on 07703 203893.
