Mental health charity looks for support workers

This Is Wiltshire: MIND Swindon has launched a new network at Central Library MIND Swindon has launched a new network at Central Library

MIND Swindon has launched a peer support and volunteer network at the Central Library.

The charity set up the group in conjunction with the Volunteer Centre to discuss volunteering opportunities available to people with mental health issues.

The network offers support in a number of ways to potential volunteers, from filling out application forms to accompanying them to their first session.

A charity spokesman said: “The other aim of the group is to provide people with an opportunity to become a peer support worker if they wish.

“Many Mind members feel as though they would like to be able to give something back, and become a part of a peer support network to give the opportunity to provide support to people who are in the same position as they once were.

“Everyone within the group is at a different stage and some do not feel ready to volunteer by themselves. We have recently arranged to do some group volunteering to get everyone involved and to help build confidence.”
