CALOR LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION: Commitment issues as manager O’Donnell lets pair fly the Robins’ nest

BRIAN O’Donnell says he only wants players that are 100 per cent committed to the cause within the makeup of his Frome Town squad.
The Robins boss released former Yeovil Town youth striker Lloyd Matthews last weekend, as well as 30-year-old ex-Swindon Town midfielder Bryan Smith, who has since opted to join West Country rivals Chippenham Town.
“The thing with Lloyd is that he hadn’t been making himself available very much in the last few weeks. As I understand it, he’s moving to the States very soon too so there wasn’t much point in keeping him at the club,” said O’Donnell.
“Bryan had also missed a few weeks with injury and when he came back, it was clear that he wasn’t really going to be a part of the side.
“I spoke to him and he asked to leave. I only want players that are going to fight to be a part of the squad, rather than just a part of the first 11.
“We’re looking at new players all the time but I won’t be saying anything about who we might be signing because I’ve had my fingers burnt a few times already.”
On Tuesday night, Frome progressed to the quarter-finals of the Somerset Premier Cup with victory over Toolstation League outfit Keynsham Town last night.
In a replay of last week's clash, which was abandoned due to keeper Scott Armstrong suffering broken ribs and a bruised spleen, O'Donnell's men took the lead on the stroke of half-time, with Matt Clark firing home from the penalty spot after Tim Stephenson was brought down in the area.
Will Agbo grabbed the Robins' second within the first minute of the second period before Ben Wood rounded off the scoring to ensure Frome's place in the next round.
On Saturday, O’Donnell’s side slipped to a third straight defeat in the Calor League Premier Division as they went down 3-1 at St Neots Town.
The hosts’ Matt Nolan scored twice before Rhys Baggridge hit back for Frome with his sixth goal of the season but Simon Thomas tapped in St Neots’ third.
The Robins also had full-back Mark Cooper sent off late on for a lunging tackle on Dave Deeney.
Brandon Mundy and Johnny Lynn are injury doubts for the visit of title-chasers Chesham United tomorrow.
