With only three days left to drop off donations for the Salvation Army Toy Appeal, Trowbridge mayor David Halik is thanking the town for supporting local families.

The toys will go to families in need in and around Trowbridge and will be delivered by Social Services in the week before Christmas.

Donations, which must be new and in original packaging, can range from toys and games to books, for girls and boys up to 16 years old.

Mr Halik said: “My thanks go out to everyone who has donated.

“Trowbridge supports its people, young and old, and the local groups and organisations like the Salvation Army give so much.”

The Trowbridge drop off points include Tesco Extra in County Way, The Salvation Army in Castle Street, the management suite of The Shires and The Wiltshire Times in Duke Street. Gifts can also be dropped off at Sainsbury’s in Melksham and Bradford on Avon.

Tesco community champion Cheryl Brown said: “We have been supporting the Salvation Army Toy Appeal for a number of years and this year I think the response has been brilliant.

“In the first week we filled several trollies. People have been coming in with their own toys, or buying them from the shelves and donating them.

“It is nice to have a local charity helping people closer to home.”

In the Wiltshire Times reception there are 30 bags of toys waiting to be picked up by the Salvation Army, who, from Monday, will sort through all the donations into age and gender, ready to be picked up by Social Services.
