Hundreds of visitors flocked to Burbage for the village’s 19th annual Christmas tree sale this weekend, making it the most successful year to date.

A record 700 trees were sold, beating last year’s total of 650, and the sale exceeded the £15,000 raised last year by a whopping £2,000, with all money going towards the upkeep of the village church.

Organiser George Gordon estimated the sales, on Saturday on Sunday, drew up to 2,500 visitors eager to browse among the 40 market stalls, as well as snap up a Christmas tree. Among them was Devizes MP Claire Perry.

Mr Gordon said: “We had people from all over the area, and one tree even went to London. People come back year after year. It’s such a successful market and gains more and more momentum.

“Next year will be our 20th year and we are going to be pulling out all the stops for it. So make a date for it on December 6 and 7, 2014.”

Adding to the entertainment was music from the Pewsey Belles, Burbage Choir, the church band and Cats’ Eyes.
