WOOTTON Bassett Town Ladies returned to winnings ways in Gloucestershire County Women’s League Division One with a thumping 4-1 victory away at Cheltenham Spa CS.

On a windswept afternoon, all the goals came in the second half as Bassett took full advantage of playing with the gust at their backs.

They took the lead through Sophie Harper who slotted in at close range after the home keeper was only able to parry Emily Bogg’s low right wing cross.

Ten minutes later Bogg doubled the advantage in slightly fortunate circumstances as the Cheltenham custodian fumbled her clean strike and saw it roll into the back of the net.

Now in control, Bassett further extended their lead when a Bogg ball caused yet more panic in the home penalty area and Alisha Elson slotted in following a goalmouth scramble.

Laura Ball then made it four, cleverly redirecting Bogg’s crisp shot past a wrong-footed keeper.

Despite enjoying a fantastic afternoon, there was to be no clean sheet for Bassett as a mix up between Laura Jefferies and deputising keeper Sam Wood allowed Cheltenham to snatch a consolation goal.
