A GRANDMOTHER cried tears of joy when she was granted a Christmas Wish.

Lorraine Morgan, of Highworth, who suffers from mobility problems due to narrowing of the spine and bulging back discs, has been given a trip to see Billy Elliot in the West End next year thanks to Barnes Travel and Coach Hire.

Earlier this month, we appealed for Adver readers to tell us about people who truly deserved a treat over the festive period.

Lorraine, 60, was nominated by her daughter, Katy, who said her mum deserved a treat because even though she can hardly move she always helps other people if she can.

Lorraine said: “This is fantastic, I really can’t believe it. I only found out this morning when Katy told me where we were going. I thought she was messing about because she is a joker.

“I have seen the Billy Elliot film a couple of times and I think it’s lovely.

“It will be amazing to go to the West End – I have never been before.

“Katy is just a little dear, I am over the moon.”

Barnes Travel and Coach Hire, which is based in South Marston, will take Lorraine and Katy from Highworth to the Victoria Palace Theatre in London in January.

Katy, 28, who gave birth to son Hendrix in August, said: “I was so excited when I found out my mum had been chosen to receive a Christmas wish.

“My mum is really lovely. She has always done everything for me and I wanted to do something nice for her.

“She is the kindest and most generous woman you could ever meet.

“Mum was such an active woman and always looked after us and everyone else over the years. But now I feel so sorry for her as she suffers from narrowing of the spine and bulging back discs.

“She is classed as disabled and cannot walk far or even do her housework now, which really upsets her. Even though she can hardly move she still helps out anyone she can.

“I just want to make her happy, just for one day, as most days she sits crying with pain.

“I love my mum with all my heart and she deserves a wish.”

One of the most celebrated and award-winning musicals on stage today, Billy Elliot has been dazzling London’s West End since 2005, and has gone on to captivate audiences around the world.

Set in a northern mining town, against the background of the 1984/85 miners’ strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy’s struggle against the odds to make his dream come true.

Luke Barnes, director of Barnes Travel, said: “We try to help out for local good causes where we can. Getting involved with the “Christmas Wish is a nice thing to do at Christmas. The trip to see Billy Elliot is a popular trip as all our theatre trips are.”
