A police inspector says he is frustrated not to have caught Westbury’s “Heart U” graffiti vandal, although attacks have now stopped.
Inspector Alan Webb was giving an update on the attacks on signs and property to the Westbury Area Board meeting last Thursday.
The “Heart U” message was sprayed on road signs, postboxes, walls and private properties all over the town during the summer.
The Neighbourhood Poli-cing Team made targeting graffiti as a top priority, but no one has been caught in relation to the spray attacks.
Wiltshire Council’s street scene officers and parish stewards, who were also at the meeting, have scrubbed off the graffiti from some signs, but another will have to be replaced.
Insp Webb said: “I’m frustrated because I can’t come to the area board and say we have caught the culprit. We can say that it has stopped for now.
“We did make an approach to someone we thought may have done it and that may have led to it stopping.”
