The true spirit of Christmas came to Shaw last week, at a real nativity scene set up in the village.

The display was held by villager Helen Roberts, who opened up one of her stables last Friday to real donkeys, Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus.

Mrs Roberts said: “The weather wasn’t ideal, as it started to rain just as they got there, but the children really loved it, they all piled in the stables.

“We had the reception children from Aloeric School and Shaw School, then some little ones came along after school, and quite a lot of grown-ups.”

The scene raised over £200, which will be split between charities Horse World, the British Heart Foundation and Children with Cancer.

The holy couple were portrayed by churchwardens Sue Evans and Clive Briggs, with her grandson playing the baby Jesus.
