Members of the special constabulary gave a man in his 30s a £100 fine after they caught him speeding on Oxford Road, Calne, on December 17 around 7pm.

The man, who was driving a Ford Fiesta, was caught driving at 42mph in a 30mph zone and was issued with the fixed penalty ticket.

Two drivers were also caught speeding on the road, but they were given a verbal warning as they were travelling below the speed required for prosecution.

At the same time speeding checks were carried out at two locations on London Road, by the Holy Trinity School, and two drivers were given verbal warnings for speeding.

Three drivers were advised by members of the special constabulary, who spotted faulty lights on their cars, and four drivers were breathalysed, but the results were negative.

PCSO Mark Cook said: “All the road checks that are being done in Calne are at the request of residents in these areas because they have raised concerns to us.

“More checks will be done in these areas and other areas, and if there are any residents in Calne concerned about vehicles travelling at excess speed they should contact the police team and we will add these locations to our lists.”
