Corsham's charity sci-fi group has broken its own record and raised an astronomical amount this year, netting more than £30,000 for a range of charities.

The group, which hosts the town’s annual sci-fi fun day, takes its replica Daleks, film props and costumes to events across the South West, and was well ahead of last year’s £21,000 total.

Chairman Adrian Davies said: “This year has been totally amazing. We raised £6,855.49 from the Corsham event, and we were at the Fleet Air Arm Museum, which made about £11,500.

“We were at the Corsham Christmas lights switch-on, which raised almost £150, and we got £1,000 when we were at Cribbs Causeway for Children in Need.

“The money goes to lots of charities – Marie Curie is one of our favourites, as well as Chippenham 16-30 Phab, and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

“We’re already making plans for next year. We’ll be collecting at the pier in Weston Super Mare, and the Corsham sci-fi event will be coming back as well.

“In Corsham we wouldn’t be able to do a lot of the things we do if it wasn’t for the support from the Town Council and places like the Methuen Arms, which gave us reduced hotel rates.

“Without them we wouldn’t have made nearly as much as we did.

“The support the town gives us is pretty phenomenal, and this is our chance to say thank you to them.”
