LAST night's high winds and heavy rain are still causing disruption in and around Swindon.

Wiltshire Police have reported downed trees and flooding as a result of the storm, handling 196 different incidents across the county this morning.

There is a downed tree blocking to road in Castleview Road, in Coleview, and also a tree in the street in Broadmoor Road, South Marston.

There is a reported 40-yard puddle on the A419 at Cricklade and also the A420 Oxford Road between Shrivenham and Swindon wa flooded but passable at the railway bridge.

The gable end of a property on Okus Road was blow off at 5pm last night.

Two pumping apppliances and an aerial platform from Wiltshire Fire and Rescue attended the incident. Crews were at the scene for more than two hours. No-one is believed to have been injured.

Rodbourne Road remains flooded after last night's heavy downpours, with water creeping towards properties.

Patricia Johnson, a resident, said dirty water from blocked drains had spread to the pavements and her own drive, getting dangerously close to her house.

"The whole road is flooded," she said. " It's all over the pavements and it's coming down my drive. The road should be closed off. It's absolutely ridiculous."

First Great Western's high-speed services going through Swindon are still running but to a reduced timetable and at a slower speed.

However, services to Melksham and beyond have been cancelled as the track is impassable.

A spokesman said: “The heavy rainfall and subsequent debris on the line is causing significant disruption across the network. We are still running the services we can but they will be very crowded as you can imagine.
“We would advise people only to travel if absolutely necessary and if they do so to set off as early as possible. All ticket restrictions have been lifted across our network.”
