SWINDON is bracing itself for further downpours today with a risk of hail although flood and weather warnings have officially been lifted in the county.

Rain and wind battered the streets again last night leaving some areas waterlogged. But despite a forecast of heavy showers interspersed with sunny spells, the region has seen the worst of the storms and heavy weather according to the Met Office Yet as showers and wind persist, people across Swindon and Wiltshire are urged to take extra care on the roads and remain vigilant.

A Met Office spokesman said: “The public should be aware of the potential for disruption, especially where the high winds are combined with heavy rainfall. Please watch for possible updates, especially those who have travel plans.”

Wiltshire Council is also renewing its appeal to residents to stay safe in the aftermath of the powerful storms on Monday and Tuesday.

John Thomson, cabinet member for highways, said: “Our teams are working closely with partner organisations to keep the highways clear during this bad weather. The hard work will continue as we strive to make sure our roads and footways stay as clear as possible during the winter months.”

Trains will run throughout the weekend although at a reduce speed and delays are to be expected.
