Wylye Valley School held a Christmas Jumper Day and bring and buy cake sale to fundraise for the Philippines disaster victims.

Pupils also had the idea of filling a large container with coins. Parent Ethel Bell, who grew up in the Philippines, took assembly and told the children what life was like there and used three children to demonstrate the strength of a typhoon.

All the hard work paid off, with nearly all the cakes sold and around £200 donated to Save the Children.

Pupils in Years 5 and 6 have been going out into the community singing carols. They performed to members from Holidays for Homes in Codford Village Hall.

“They sang so well, and their diction was excellent,” said the organisers. “It started Christmas for many of us.”

They also paid their annual visit to the residents of Edgars Close in Steeple Langford to sing a range of Christmas tunes.
