Trowbridge businessmen Steve and Charlie Wicks, who own Bath furniture store Silcox Son and Wicks, gave a free bed to a woman who fell ill while queuing overnight for their winter sale to begin.

Edwina Jager, 74, who’d been waiting from 4.30pm on Boxing Day for the sale to start at 10am last Friday, suffered from suspected hypthermia following heavy rainfall overnight.

When the store’s owners arrived at Silcox Son and Wicks at 8am, they took the woman inside, calling for an ambulance with paramedics treating her.

Ms Jager, who lives in Bath, didn’t need to go to hospital and was free to go home. She had been waiting to buy a bed marked down from £958 to £99 – which Silcox Son and Wicks gave her as a gesture of goodwill.

“She was a great sport and we were very impressed she queued all night. We wish her well and hope she enjoys the bed,” said store manager Charlie.

“We were very touched by the actions of the other people in the queue who rallied round to give her blankets, a hot water bottle and hot drinks during the night.”
