Organisers of the Calne Model Rail Show are keeping an eye on weather forecasts ahead of the event on January 18 and 19 as heavy rainfall causes problems.

The 2013 exhibition was held during heavy snowfall and, although the show went ahead as planned, several of the exhibitors were snowed in and had to withdraw.

The attendance also fell to 700 instead of the usual total of nearly 2,000.

In order to give those who missed the event the chance to see a model railway show, an extra event was arranged at short notice in July. This coincided with the first heatwave of the summer when people were reluctant to attend an indoor event.

With the previous two events having been hit by extreme weather, it came as no surprise when the high winds before Christmas blew down some of the 2014 show's advertising banners.

Regardless of the weather, say organisers, the 2014 exhibition will take place at Calne Leisure Centre from 10am to 5pm each day.

There will be 16 working layouts representing the railways of Britain, Germany, Switzerland and the USA over periods from the First World War to the present day.

Admission is £4.50 at the door with discounts available for children and families.
