Hungerdown Post Office will close for a week’s refurbishment next month before it reopens as Chippenham’s main branch.

The post office at Redland will be modernised and its opening hours extended to 16 hours a day, and will also open on a Sunday. It will also be able to issue car tax.

About half of the Post Office’s 6,000 branches will be converted to the new style branches over the next three years.

Hungerdown’s branch opens from 9am-5.30pm Monday to Saturday, but from February 11 outside of main counter times, post office services will be available at the retail counter from 6am-10pm Monday to Saturday, and on Sundays from 7am-10pm.

Area manager Mark Jacobs said: “We look forward to welcoming customers to their new main Post Office branch.

“The change to this branch is part of a three-year investment and support programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.

“Our aim is to create a more modern and convenient retail experience for customers that will include longer opening hours.”

Hungerdown Post Office will close for a week-long refurbishment from 5.30pm on Monday, February 3, to 1pm in Monday, February 10.

The nearest alternative is on New Road, which is open 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.
