A long-running Trowbridge model railway club is preparing to move into new premises after leaving its home of 47 years.

West Wiltshire Model Railway Circle, founded in 1967, had been in Andil House in Trowbridge for 42 years when HJ Knee announced plans to refurbish the premises last October.

After searching the group found space to rent at the former Holt Tannery and will move in on March 23.

Chairman Ron Pybus said: “Everyone has been working hard. It has rejuvenated the club.

“We have to put in hardboard over the floor and a new roof.

“The corrugated tin ceiling will mean big heating costs. We will put in a false ceiling with insulation.”

The club has been given £346 for the roof by Bradford on Avon Area Board and has applied to Trowbridge Board for cash.

The new premises will have easy access compared to Andil House, where members has to use a fire escape. The club meets on Wednesdays from 7-9pm.
