Former headteacher will be greatly missed
STUDENTS all over the world have been mourning the loss of former headteacher, Huw Evans OBE, who lost his battle with melanoma last week.
Huw, who was head teacher at Watchfield Primary School for more than 30 years before he retired in 2006, died surrounded by his family at his Wanborough home on January 11 at the age of 67.
His widow, Judith, has been overwhelmed by the number of tributes which have poured in on the news of his death from former students who still remember him from their school days.
She said: “He was wonderful. We have had so many tributes to him from Watchfield students and from the Military Academy. The Military Wives Choir have also asked to sing at his funeral.
“He had a great sense of humour and was a real Welshman.
“He had a passion for education and giving children every opportunity he could in life.
“He was so kind as well.”
Huw, who originally came from Swansea, was awarded with an OBE in 2007 in recognition of his tireless work in education.
He is survived by his wife, Judith, his daughter Cerys and son-in-law Miles, and grandchildren Oscar and Felix, who knew him as T’cu – meaning ‘grandfather’ in Welsh.
His funeral will be held on January 23 at St Andrew’s Church, Wanborough at 2pm, followed by a cremation at Kingsdown Crematorium.
The family request no flowers but donations will be appreciated for Melanoma Focus www.justgiving.com\HuwEvans OBE
