Help to cut fuel bills across Wiltshire is Citizens Advice Bureau's goal during Big Energy Saving Week - January 27 to 31.

The energy saving week is a national campaign run by Citizens Advice and is supported by charities, the government and the energy industry.

It will focus on:

  • Making sure you are on the best payment method by checking with your energy supplier – or see if they offer discounts. For example, an average saving of £100 can be made by paying with direct debit rather than cash or cheque.
  • Switching: If you have never switched supplier before you could save up to £200. Visit an accredited switching website to see if you can get cheaper energy.
  • Insulating: On average a saving of up to £325 can be made from insulation and other energy saving measures.

There will be display stands in most Wiltshire Libraries and in the main Wiltshire Citizens Advice waiting rooms. There will also be print copies of the top energy-saving tips for all staff to give to clients during the week.

Advice services manager Kirsty Field said: “During Big Energy Saving Week we’ll be helping consumers to check, switch and insulate to bring their energy costs down.

“The rising cost of living means that more and more people are finding that their household budgets won’t cover day to day essentials.

"We’re keen to make sure that no-one pays a penny more than they need to on energy costs.

"There are practical things that people can do to reduce their energy bills and help ease financial pressure.”

Consumers can also get help and advice online at www.bigenergysavingweek.org.uk, from their local CAB, or can join in the CAB's twitter chat on Thursday, January 30.
