Wootton Bassett Ladies slipped to fifth in the North Division as they went down 5-2 to leaders Marlborough.
Bassett looked solid in defence in the face of some early Marlborough pressure, keeping out a number of short corners, as goalkeeper Laura Brown made a number of diving saves.
Eventually, however, Marlborough’s pressure paid off, as they converted a rebound from another Brown save.
Marlborough scored a second after a well-worked corner before adding a third on the break.
Bassett fought back with a goal from Tegan Buchanan after a one-two from a short corner with Ceri Burgess.
Marlborough again upped the pressure and scored two quick goals, putting them up 5-1. before tired Bassett added a consolation courtesy of Helen Wright’s penalty stroke.
Wootton Bassett have an immediate chance to climb the table next week when they take on BAC, who occupy fourth place.
Wootton Bassett Ladies A regained top spot in the league after a 5-1 win over Devizes with goals from Sue Lee, Abi Isles, Charlie Clements and a brace form Rhiannon Turner.
Wootton Bassett Ladies B lost 3-0 to City of Bath B.
