Scaffolding has gone up outside St Paul's Church in Chippenham as the building is being reroofed.

A church spokesman said: "It has reached the point where it either had to be repaired or we would have to start issuing buckets to the congregation.

"The re-roofing is being done by the same company that re-roofed the smaller chapel roof a few years ago and will retain as much of the existing stone roof tiles as possible, replacing with new where possible.

"While the majority of the work has been funded by the church itself, we do gratefully acknowledge a grant from Wiltshire Historic Churches towards the costs."

The re-roofing, to be completed in early summer, will restore St Paul's appearance. "We hope to provide a further 150 years of good service to the people of Chippenham," added the spokesman.
