A pensioner who is said to have sexually abused a girl in a village near Melksham in the early 1980s has been released on bail by a judge.

Raymond McDermid is accused of indecent assault and inciting gross indecency with a child.

No charges were formally put to the 66-year-old, who lives in Slough, Berkshire, during a brief hearing at Swindon Crown Court on Friday.

McDermid is said to have carried out the offences against the girl in Whitley, near Melksham, in 1981 or 1982.

Judge Douglas Field adjourned the case to Friday, April 4 and released him on bail until then.
