OLYMPIAN Danny Talbot faces top France sprinter Christophe Lemaitre over 60metres at the Meeting de Mondeville tomorrow, writes KEVIN FAHEY.

The 22-year-old Trowbridge sprinter returns to the indoor arena for the second time this year after opening with a personal best of 6.69secs – shaving 0.04secs off his 2012 best – in the South of England Indoor Championships.

“Danny is looking in good shape but I think he can run quicker than that if he gets it right in France,” said coach Dan Cossins.

“Basically he is using the indoor season this winter as a break from training and is concentrating on the 60m and improving his speed.

“He is still in a period of heavy training and doing longer reps but we will sharpen up for the British Championships and World trials if that goes well he may get another run in the Birmingham Games. After that we will call it a day indoors.”

Cossins is hopeful that facing Lemaitre, arguably the top sprinter in European, will pull Talbot to a fast time and move him up the UK Rankings.

The former St Augustine’s School student is currently sixth fastest in the country with James Dasaolu leading the way on 6.50.
