SUNDAY LEAGUE: Sandgate surge into semi-finals
INTER Sandgate bounced back from a 3-2 half-time deficit to win 6-3 against AC Swindon and earn progress to the semi-finals of the Chairman’s Trophy.
On a weekend where most games involving Sunday League teams were postponed due to the wet weather, Richie Crocker twice gave Inter the lead either side of a Swindon equaliser before a blunder from the Sandgate keeper allowed AC Swindon to level for a second time, before AC then went ahead.
Inter’s Mark King and AC’s Olly Moore were sent off following an off-the-ball incident before the interval, but being down to 10 men seemed to effect Inter less as Dean Wootten equalised after the break.
From there Inter were always in control as Daniel Wilson scored twice before Crocker completed his treble to win the game.
Inter boss Jason Smith was proud of his players at the final whistle and is already looking forward to the chance of making it to the competition’s final.
“Conditions really weren’t great and I think we were one of only a few games which went ahead so it wasn’t ideal at all, but we made the most of it,” he said.
“It was our first game since December 15 so it was great to get it out of the way and even better to get a win as well. We went behind but we managed to come back and that was a pleasing thing for us.
“We’re in the last four now so we’re hoping for a nice draw and we’re excited about it. We are struggling a little in the league so it’s nice to have something to play for this season.
“Most of our focus will be on this competition now.”
