ST AUGUSTINE’S Catholic College in Trowbridge has a pup-ular new star in its production of Oliver! this week.

Bumble the dog is playing the role of Bullseye, joining 90 Year 7-13 pupils at the sold out shows on Tuesday, Wednesday and yesterday, and will be on stage for tonight’s finale.

The two-and-a-half year old bulldog already visits St George’s Preschool in War-minster to walk with the children and has joined the cast of Oliver! during their rehearsals last week.

Bumble’s owner, Adam Sturdee, who teaches history at St Augustine’s said: “She really loves children. She is very good and can follow a number of basic commands like sit, watch and wait.”

Deputy head Ann Cusack said: “The students have thrown themselves into it and everyone has got involved in the set design and costume making. It is visually exciting.

“There has also been a cross curricular dimension with students learning about poverty in the workhouses.”

Money raised from the ticket sales will go towards children’s charity Barnardos.

Year Nine pupil Lucy Gray said: “I think it is really important we are raising money for Barnardos because we should be thinking of everyone in our society and how we can help.”
