SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb admits his mind has wandered away from football this week following the death of Shrivenham manager Dave Turner.

Like many in the non-league community, Webb has been filled with immense sadness at the loss of the former Wootton Bassett boss and that has pushed first-team matters down the list of priorities.

Supermarine are scheduled to entertain Evesham in Southern League Division One South & West tomorrow and a minute’s silence will be held before the game.

And Webb feels that is an apt gesture as his club aim to pay their respects to a manager that for years was a popular and effervescent presence on the local football scene.

“It’s been a real strange week because you don’t expect to get news like that,” said Webb.

“You’re not really on it when something like that happens and it does put it all in perspective and put football to the back of your mind.

“We will pay our respects to Dave with a minute’s silence to remember him and then we will try and get back to the way he would have wanted it to be, to try and be successful and win the next game.

“That would have been his belief on it, I’m sure.”

Should Marine’s clash with Evesham at the Webb’s Wood Stadium go ahead - and the weather forecast is not favourable - the South Marston side will be without defender Kyle Lapham.

The experienced full-back, who was out for nearly two months before Christmas with an ankle problem, now has a calf injury sustained while training last weekend.

And Webb is not hopeful that the 28-year-old will make a quick return from this latest setback.

“It doesn’t look good and he could be out for three to four weeks,” said Webb.

“It’s a blow because we don’t want to be missing key players with the games we’ve got coming up.

“He’s had a torrid season with the injuries that have kept him out and now we have to regroup and try and fill the gap.”

On this weekend’s opponents, Webb added: “Evesham played Stourbridge in the Worcestershire Senior Cup and beat them (3-2 after extra time), so they are an improving side under Paul Collicutt.

“For us although we’ve done a bit of training it’s far from ideal. It’s almost like in pre-season when you’re just trying to get your fitness back again.”

Meanwhile, Marine’s home fixture against Guildford, which was postponed on Wednesday, has been rearranged for Wednesday, April 2 (kick-off 7.45pm).

Another recently called off fixture at Shortwood will now take place on Tuesday, March 11 (kick-off 7.45pm).

Cirencester welcome Clevedon in Division One South & West this weekend while in the Premier Division, Chippenham are at home to Corby.
