AN OLD Town hair salon has been targeted by thieves for the second time in just over two months.

The owner of What Women Want in Victoria Road arrived at the shop yesterday to find the door broken and the place ransacked.

It is believed the burglars took more than £1,000 worth of stock as well as several charity tins for charity Prostate Cancer UK.

In December more than £1,600 in cash destined for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer UK was taken during a charity event.

Owner Hayley Whatton, 35, said she was shocked when she first arrived yesterday morning and that feeling soon turned into frustration.

She said: “When I arrived in the morning I saw the door had been forced. As soon as I walked in I could see everything had been taken.

“They have cleared out everything on the shelves behind the till and got into the store room at the back.

“I’m just angry and can’t believe we have been burgled again.

“The police have footprints this time though, so hopefully we can catch them.

“I need to buy in more stock again but as of Friday we will be open as normal.”

The first time the salon was burgled they were holding a charity hair cutting session and went for a break in the middle of the night.

When they returned a few hours later all the money they had raised was gone.

Despite her determination to open today, Hayley is having doubts over the long term future of the salon.

“To be honest I’m thinking about packing it in,” she said. “This is the second time we have been hit and it’s just so disappointing.

“There is the financial aspect of having to replace everything and seemingly start again. I don’t know if I want to carry on.”

Police attended to the scene and did a forensic sweep of the premises to hunt for clues.

A spokesman said: “We received a call from the owner shortly after 9.20am on Thursday after reports of a break in overnight.

“It appears they forced their way in through the front door and carried out an untidy search, taking some stock with them.

“We would appeal for anyone in the Victoria Road area on Wednesday night or the early hours of Thursday morning who might have seen something to contact us on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
